Plymouth Marjon University – Accessible Website UX/UI

WCAG 2.1 AA university website

The website was approached not only to be accessible for the 20% of users with disabilities, but to appeal to those without accessibility issues, to promote Plymouth Marjon University as the outstanding institution it is.

The website won a Bronze Award in 2019 for ‘Higher Education Website of the Year’ and in 2021 was rewarded with ‘Highly Commended’.

Dubbed, the “Oscars of Higher Education marketing”, the HEIST awards have been running for 28 years and celebrate the best marketing in the sector.

“The judges were incredibly impressed with the university’s focus on inclusion and accessibility. This website sets the standard moving forward and the HE marketing community should take note! Well done Plymouth Marjon University.” Heist Awards 2021

Accessible web design

“Congratulations on a job really well done, and thank you, on behalf of everyone at the university, for your enormous efforts to get it not just complete and live, but looking brilliant.”
Katy Willis – Pro Vice-Chancellor

In 2015, Studiose was commissioned to design and build a responsive modular website, capable of handling vast amounts of information appealing to students and university staff. Since then, we’ve worked hard to make the site even better, winning a Bronze Award in 2019 for ‘Higher Education Website of the Year’.

ALL public sector websites legally had to meet accessibility requirements by September 2020. Despite working throughout the Covid-19 lock-down (and home schooling…), we have created a new and fully accessible website which is WCAG 2.1 AA compliant, resulting in a further 20% of visitors being able to use and interact with the website effectively through sight, hearing or touch. It’s user-friendly, easy to comprehend and robust, accessible across devices from mobile to the largest of desktops, responsive to users’ needs and extendable into the future.
